Yet again, I’ve neglected this thing.   This is largely due to my being completely occupied by work at the hospital.  I’m currently mid-way through my sub-internship, which is essentially when we lowly 4th-year medical students function as first year residents.  A kind of practice for next year, if you can imagine.  It’s been great – I’d even venture to say that it is destined to be the highlight of my medical school years.  For the first time we don’t have classes and tests.  Just the patients.  All of our energy is focused on caring for our patients.   And the patients are fun.  For the most part.  I have met some amazing people who have overcome tremendously difficult life situations with chronic health outcomes, yet retain such positive outlooks.  Then there are the demented old ladies who call me a bastard when I walk in the room.  Funny thing is… I find it so entertaining, I really don’t mind being verbally abused like that.

Science and art…

There is an enormous amount of art and creativity that enters into scientific endeavors.  Not creative in the sense of making data up (though, that has been known to happen), but with respect to truly beautiful experimental design.

Then there are moments when a simple experiment produces data that is striking.  Simplistic and common in the scientific literature, but still beautiful.
